Peter Rabbit, a Sony Film, is a wonderful addition to the Beatrix Potter line of stories.
It does not necessarily follow the same path of the previous stories, except for having the same premise of sneaking into Mr. McGregor’s garden, but it does give the viewers a picture of what could have happened in the lives of the characters we have all come to love.
If you are a Beatrix Potter fan, you will enjoy trying to spot all of Potter’s wonderfully adorable characters as they make their appearances. Plus, you get a look into Beatrix Potter herself with the character of Bea (Rose Byrne) as she takes care of her favorite rabbits. Plus, we get introduced to a brand new Mr. McGregor (Domhnall Gleeson) who has taken over the estate. The most fun is all the interactions between the rabbits, especially Peter (James Corden), and this new Mr. McGregor.
I have three boys and two of them (the ones 8 and younger) gave the movie five out of five stars because they loved the music and excitement. My eldest, a preteen, was a little disappointed. It was a little too cute for him and did not satisfy his need for action scenes and more mature jokes. However, while it might not be the best movie selection for preteens or teenagers, it is definitely a delight for younger children and parents alike. So, if you are looking for a cute, romantic movie that you can take your children to over Valentine’s Day week, this would be the one.
Note, my eldest son was much more intrigued by the previews that came before the movie. For those preteen and teenage boys out there, the movies coming out later this year might be of interest. There is Teen Titans Go! To the Movies, which is scheduled for release in July of 2018 and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, scheduled to come out around Christmas 2018.
