Felicity discovers a secret about Oliver that shocks her. Meanwhile, Diggle and Curtis go undercover for ARGUS, while Dinah works with an unlikely ally.
The episode begins with Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) once again working with Black Siren (Katie Cassidy), aka Earth 2 Laurel, acting as District Attorney as they still search for the missing Longbow Hunter. Black Siren encourages her to see her husband who she has been avoiding until she catches Ricardo Diaz (Kirk Acevedo).
It is there where she discovers that Oliver (Stephen Amell) has gone to Level 2 from Stan (Brendan Fletcher). Please, Stan, the fans are beginning to trust you now, please don’t disappoint us and turn on Oliver Queen. Felicity is shocked at Stan’s news. Oliver has been keeping his head down in prison and frankly, he hasn’t been that man who attacks for no reason in years.
Felicity goes on to investigate just what Level Two is, especially as when she hacks the system, it is nowhere to be found. Her new partner in crime, Black Siren, has reservations, but Felicity encourages empathy. This has the two of them engaging Dinah (Juliana Harkavy) into the search. I hate to admit it but the team of Black Siren and Felicity is kind of working this season. It’s too bad they couldn’t have made this type of relationship work when it was the actual Laurel.
Dinah did not want to help either one of them, instead encouraging Felicity to go back into Witness Protection and Laurel to go back to Earth 2. Felicity ends up winning her over. This is her husband they are talking about. The same man who help Dinah and brought her back to Star City. Dinah should be more than willing to help considering all the trouble that the New Team Arrow brought into their midst.
As for Diggle (David Ramsey) and Curtis (Echo Kellum), they are working on an undercover mission with ARGUS as a result of the information that they pulled from the bank last week. But it is Curtis, much to his chagrin, that gets put in the main position of going undercover. He is not happy about the situation. We find out why after he goes out the first time, which should have been the only time. Curtis tells Diggle how scared he is to go out in the field anymore. And Diggle goes all Yoda on him as he used to on Oliver. Funny, because Curtis’s mentality seems to change per week. It was only a couple of episodes ago when he was out with Dinah, Felicity, and Rene (Rick Gonzalez). Not surprising since his character has become so wishy-washy in the last season or so. He was so much better when he was Felicity’s sidekick at Palmer Tech, unlike now where his character could easily be related to The Good Place’s Chidi Anagonye (William Jackson Harper) with all of his indecisiveness.
We find Oliver on Level Two under the influence of Doctor Jarrett Parker (Jason E. Kelly). He has yet to find the Demon, but the Demon finds him. She confronts him in his cell when he least expects her. Yep, her. The daughter of the original Demon, Ra’s al Ghul (Matt Nable). The older daughter, Talia (Lexa Doig). The same woman who once trained him and then turned on him on Lian Yu.
She is covered in burn scars and tells him that she escaped because Diaz helped her. Which leads to the question did Diaz have something to do with Adrian Chase (Josh Segarra)? That could be an interesting twist but I suspect that this will be one bit of storyline that will fall to the wayside.
Oliver refuses to help Talia break out. She did set up his attack in prison. The same one where he had been told his wife was dead. But, once Oliver sees the prisoner who attacked him die after being taken to a secret room, he changes his mind and the two of them agree on a plan, with some conditions of Oliver’s own. To find out what is the exact reason why Level Two exists.
When their plan takes action, we get to see the Oliver we have all grown to love. The take no prisoners fighter who won’t back down. The battle scenes this season have been beyond amazing. Bringing the fans back to the feelings we had about the show in Seasons 1 and 2.
Oliver helps Talia escape but backs down from actually escaping himself because he doesn’t want to be a hunted man. Not just for himself, but for his family. Handing off the drive that explains what is going on in Level Two, Oliver allows himself to become captured by the guards.
Felicity gets the information and the police go on to shut down Level Two, sending Oliver back down to his cell. Where Stan tells him he saw Felicity and told her about his situation and that Felicity was getting close to taking down Diaz. Felicity and her new team, consisting of Dinah and Black Siren, and let’s face it, Rene too since he has been doing a lot of her dirty work, work on shutting down everything having to do with Level Two. But because Oliver had been a part of the doctor’s experiment without knowledge, it leads them to believe that they just might be able to get him out of prison.
